Melanotan-II, also referred to as MT-II or MT-2, is a synthetic cyclic peptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, commonly abbreviated as α-MSH. It is investigated as a melanocortin-receptor agonist and is chemically distinct from Melanotan-I and FDA-approved afamelanotide products.
In controlled laboratory environments, Melanotan-II may be studied in connection with melanocortin-receptor binding, receptor selectivity, cyclic-AMP signaling, gene-expression pathways, pigmentation-related cellular models, appetite-associated signaling, and experimental behavioral research.

Published laboratory, animal, and limited human research has examined Melanotan-II in relation to melanocortin receptors and a variety of physiological responses. These findings do not establish that this independently supplied research material safely increases pigmentation, reduces appetite, enhances sexual function, modifies compulsive behavior, or provides any therapeutic or cosmetic benefit in humans or animals.
Claims that Melanotan-II treats autism, addiction, sexual dysfunction, obesity, appetite disorders, or any other medical or developmental condition have been omitted. In particular, there is no established basis for presenting Melanotan-II as a treatment for autism in children, and such a claim could create serious safety and regulatory concerns.
Melanotan-II is not an FDA-approved drug in the United States. FDA has previously taken enforcement action involving Melanotan-II marketed as an injectable tanning product and has stated that it could not be distributed as a drug without FDA approval. FDA also identifies Melanotan-II as a substance that may present immunogenicity and peptide-impurity risks in compounded products.
The terms Melanotan-II, MT-II, MT-2, Melanotan-II acetate, and other salt or modified forms should not automatically be treated as analytically interchangeable. Peptide sequence, cyclization, salt form, counterion, purity, molecular identity, and composition should be verified through appropriate batch-specific analytical documentation.

Storage & handling
Before reconstitution. Keep the sealed vial cool and dark. Lyophilized peptides are stable this way for the period stated on the certificate.
Reconstitution. Add bacteriostatic water slowly against the inside wall of the vial. Swirl gently to dissolve — never shake, as agitation can damage the peptide chain.
After reconstitution. Store refrigerated and use within the window appropriate for the compound under study. Do not freeze once in solution.
