Melanotan-I, also known as MT-1, NDP-α-MSH, or afamelanotide, is a synthetic linear peptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. Melanotan-I acetate is the acetate salt form of this peptide and should be distinguished analytically from the free-base form and other melanocortin-related peptides.
In controlled laboratory environments, Melanotan-I acetate may be investigated in connection with melanocortin-receptor binding, receptor selectivity, cyclic-AMP signaling, melanocyte-associated pathways, pigment-related gene expression, peptide stability, and structure–activity relationships.
Full research description
Published research has examined afamelanotide-related compounds primarily in relation to melanocortin-1 receptor signaling and pigmentation-associated biological processes. These findings do not establish that this independently supplied research material safely increases skin pigmentation, protects against ultraviolet radiation, treats photosensitivity, or provides any therapeutic or cosmetic benefit in humans or animals.
Afamelanotide is also the active ingredient in the FDA-approved prescription implant Scenesse. Scenesse is approved to increase pain-free light exposure in adults with a history of phototoxic reactions associated with erythropoietic protoporphyria. That approval applies only to the regulated 16mg implant product and does not extend to independently supplied Melanotan-I acetate research materials.
This product is not represented as Scenesse, is not equivalent to or interchangeable with an FDA-approved afamelanotide implant, and has not been established as safe, effective, sterile, or suitable for administration. References to tanning, UV protection, pigmentation enhancement, treatment of photosensitivity, dosing, implantation, or other human applications have therefore been omitted.
The terms Melanotan-I, MT-1, afamelanotide, afamelanotide acetate, and Melanotan-I acetate may refer to different salt forms, counterions, hydration states, or analytical preparations. Peptide sequence, salt form, acetate content, purity, molecular identity, potency, and composition should be confirmed through appropriate batch-specific analytical documentation. FDA substance records list Melanotan-I as a synonym of afamelanotide, but such naming does not by itself establish pharmaceutical equivalence or approval.
Storage & handling
Before reconstitution. Keep the sealed vial cool and dark. Lyophilized peptides are stable this way for the period stated on the certificate.
Reconstitution. Add bacteriostatic water slowly against the inside wall of the vial. Swirl gently to dissolve — never shake, as agitation can damage the peptide chain.
After reconstitution. Store refrigerated and use within the window appropriate for the compound under study. Do not freeze once in solution.
Check that the batch code on the label matches your packing slip on arrival.
COA & testing
Every batch is analysed by an independent laboratory before it is listed. The method for this compound is HPLC-UV 214nm.
The certificate shows the main peak purity, the impurity profile, the test date and the laboratory that performed it — tied to the batch code printed on your vial.
